When Tauranga City Council found their existing events portal website wasn’t fit for purpose, they approached us to overhaul the experience for the public and event creators alike. We partnered with them on a journey to create a new platform that simplifies event browsing, streamlines event management and inspires locals to try new experiences in and around the city.
We ran a series of workshops and user testing sessions looking at the problem from all angles – including both potential end users and event hosts. These sessions provided valuable insights into the needs and preferences of both audiences, proving invaluable in the development of the website’s user experience and interface.
For the Streaming Generation
We took inspiration from ubiquitous streaming platforms like Netflix and Disney+ to help guide users with a familiar looking and intuitive interface. Our simple, stripped back design allows event visuals to stand out so it’s easier to locate information at a glance and save events for later.
Tags, you’re it
Finding events quickly was one of the key considerations for users. We focused on creating a tagging and search system to help users effortlessly filter and locate events by keyword, category, date, location, and more.
The Right Approach
The website’s intuitive design and user-friendly features underscores the importance of taking a collaborative and user-focused approach in order to create engaging, functional websites that deliver for all users.
Out to Launch
To help launch the new website, we developed a campaign that asks residents the question ‘What’s on in Tauranga?’ This teaser campaign, incorporating posters, billboards, social posts and stories, helped set the scene for the website launch and familiarise the public with their new true source of event information.
